So, you’ve just found this great website that’s offering all kinds of FREE information. But the form is asking you to verify that you are a real human being, and uses twisted and/or blurred text for you to decipher and enter into a text box.

Why all this verifying of forms on the Internet? … you may be asking yourself.

Well, let me begin here by saying, this form of verification is known as CAPTCHA which stands for “completely automated public Turing test to tell computers and humans apart.”
CAPTCHA is a form of security made to protect you and I… you know, the REAL human beings, from computer generated robotic software known as bots. I’m sure you’ve heard that term by now, especially if you’ve ever use chat rooms online. Bots can make our Internet experience a real pain. CAPTCHA security has been created to minimize the effects bots can have on website forms.

Stopping bots from registering fraudulent accounts, spreading spam and/or posting links to unsafe websites is just what CAPTCHA security is all about. Typically, CAPTCHA tests show warped and distorted words or letters that are supposed to be impossible for computers to read, but that people should be able to read.

In this way, CAPTCHA tests can distinguish between legitimate, human visitors to the website and bots.

The problem is that in order to be more secure against bots, CAPTCHAs have become so difficult that many people can no longer read them. Website visitors become very frustrated and they often abandon the action they were attempting …or they abandon the website completely.

Confident CAPTCHA is a free, picture CAPTCHA that simply asks website visitors to click on specific pictures (example: Click on the picture of the airplane) as verification that they are human. This form of verification has proven to be more appealing to visitors, increasing the likelihood of website visitors following through with the action required in order to send or submit the necessary information.

Most people say they find Confident CAPTCHA much easier to use than being asked to decipher warped and distorted words and/or letters. It’s almost entertaining.

At the same time, Confident CAPTCHA is more secure against bot attacks because bots aren’t able to identify the subject matter of the pictures.

In the future, there may even be an opportunity for website owners with forms, to earn revenue by allowing some sponsored business ad images to be included in the CAPTCHA image grid. Wow… now that’s a concept I like!
