In those emails, there has been a lot of great controversy regarding this topic… and, I just couldn’t resist sharing this with you. Some readers were against the message conveyed in THIS video… some FOR it… and still others, who found visual boo-boos in this video:

I spoke with UPS and they are fully aware of this particular spammer who is using their name to either harm our computers or gain access to our computers, whichever… do NOT open the attachment.

The lady at UPS informed me that if UPS ever officially sends out an email notification, they NEVER send attachments. So, knowing this will help all of us to know the difference between a spammer masking themselves as a well know, well used, and well liked business to harm us… and the REAL McCoy!

Remember: DO NOT OPEN the attachment. Simply DELETE the email.

I learned that a 301 redirect was necessary, in order to fix my blog not ranking in Google searches.

Then I spent another seven, unsuccessful days working with my IT department. Day eight and my IT fellas found out how to setup a 301 redirect for WordPress blogs, which they showed me… the easy way!

I’m sharing the instructions here, hoping it will help you from the frustration I went through to find this out.

So, here goes…

Once you’re signed into your WordPress Dashboard, click on Settings, and select General, as shown in the image below:

In the text box labelled “Site address (URL)” shown in the image above, circled in red, type in the “www.” before your blog’s domain name. Make sure to leave the text box labelled “WordPress address (URL)” untouched.

Now scroll to the bottom of General settings page, and click on the Save Changes button:

Be sure to test your 301 redirect. Using another session of your browser, in the address line, type in your blog’s URL WITHOUT the “www.” …and, then press enter on your keyboard. Voila! You should have arrived at your blog WITH the “www.” now showing BEFORE you blog’s domain name.

NOTE: I have noticed that since making this change, I can no longer “Preview Changes” to NEW Posts. Therefore, I now make sure to use the oldest date for my new posts. Once I have published the post, using another session of my browser, I’ll load my blog and do a search for my latest entry. Now I can view changes made by simply refreshing the second session of my browser (the one with my blog loaded). Once I’m happy with all of the edits made, I only need to change the date to the present… and I’m back in business!

I discovered the hard way that my unlimited internet access has been changed to a 5GB monthly limited download, while my supposedly, high-speed internet access was slowed to a crawl of “up to 5KBPS”.

This now makes it VERY expensive to download files like CAD and TIFs… or even view very many YouTube videos, in any given month.

Remember, your computer downloads web pages, videos, etc., as you surf the internet. Yes, it’s kept in a temp folder… but this is STILL considered downloading.

So, if you’re like me, and trying to discover ways to cut your monthly costs… I’m posting this in hope of saving you lost $$$$$$$$$$$!

First, let me give you some history…

In 2007, Ma’ Bell informed me they could no longer offer me their unlimited, long distance package for the monthly rate of $25. I refused their recommended “replacement” plan, as it was to cost me well over my former monthly rate, and cover nowhere near the same geographical area.

In speaking with friends to see what they were doing to save money on long distance, I discovered Distributel.

For the mere charge of $20.29 monthly, Distributel gave me the EXACT same plan Ma’ Bell had given me in the two previous years for $25 monthly!

I’ve been with Distributel for long distance since 2007… and, better yet… Distributel has NEVER increase my monthly long distance rate (since 2007)!

On several occasions now, I have stressed to Bell’s Service Reps that I remain loyal to companies who are honest and loyal to me. Thus I have constantly refused to return to Bell for long distance coverage of any sort.

More recently, I warned Bell’s Service Reps that if my landline and internet access were to ever go beyond the monthly rate of $65 (that I was paying in early 2009) that I would be shopping around for replacements, for these services too.

My May, June, and July 2010, Bell phone bills have been ever increasing in monthly rates. They have become what I deemed to be ridiculous and unjustified in the rates charged.

Granted, once I complained, Bell lowered my May and June telephone bills…BUT, I was then forced to pay $5 EXTRA for insurance… for IF I go over the monthly 5GB download allowance… which I did.

For July 2010, I’ve been forced to pay an extra $10 insurance from Bell, in order to be saved extra monthly charges. This means my Bell phone bill will now over $100 for a simple landline telephone, plus much slower, high-speed internet access!

Back in late April or early May 2010, Distributel sent out a direct mailing pamphlet detailing their rates for services they now offer. Thank God I kept this pamphlet! I have scanned all four pages, and offer it below here for your convenience, as a single image:

It was during my telephone conversation, when complaining about my June Bell phone bill that the Sympatico Service Rep informed me, they no longer offer users unlimited internet access of any sort.

I telephoned Distributel and have made arrangements to convert all Bell phone services to Distributel by the end of my contract with Sympatico.

Here is what Distributel offers (feel free to visit their website: http://www.distributel.ca/ and click on “Bundle & Save” in the left-hand sidebar, for their up-to-date pricing, as I did for the images offered below):

When I clicked on the “More Details” tab of the “WINNING TRIO” for $66.90 monthly, LOOK what I discovered:

Distributel offers the EXACT same slow speed of “up to 5KBPS” that Bell’s Sympatico has given me since November 2009… BUT… Distributel gives UNLIMITED access!

AND… look at ALL of the features I’ll be getting on my landline telephone with Distributel!

Bell has always charge $5 or more monthly, PER call feature added to any landline.

Finally, Distributel offers all of this for the low monthly rate that I can afford! I’m switching to Distributel, and Bell need NEVER call me again.

After close to 39 years of being a loyal customer to Bell, they swear they cannot afford to offer customers such great rates as Distributel does. So, bye, bye Bell!

OH! And… get this… Distributel’s tech support, and sales offices are located in Ottawa, Canada!

Do you know where Bell’s tech support, and service reps are now located? Not anywhere in Canada, that’s for certain!

Only recently, I have had the luxury of being introduced to the Bible. Don’t be shocked, I attended Sunday School as a child for only a very brief period. And, within that period of time, I learned that I was going to die for my sins… so we were being told. So when my non-believing parents pulled us from the little church up on Quaker Hill, I didn’t feel much remorse.

I’ve been studying from a New King James Version Amplified Parallel Bible… and, the Bible in Contemporary Language; The Message. The Message having been gifted to me by a dear friend Dave right after I had experienced a very personal loss in my life.

Each version expresses the same scriptures but The Message… is in a language I can understand easier. I read almost daily from The Message while eating my breakfast.

A very special friend Kate, teaches me using the other two versions, along with yet other versions of the Bible… whenever we can get together for Bible studies.

Between Dave and Kate (whom do NOT know each other), they have been instrumental in helping me whenever I have a question about something I have read in any of the versions of the Bibles. I’ve even discovered an online Bible I enjoy reading when away from home… Bible Gateway. There are several different versions of the Bible available for you to peruse.

If there’s one thing I finally realize, well… it’s that I know that God definitely used my problems to better my life! For example, in looking back over options I once had, it seemed at first glance that I “missed the boat” many times… or… so it seemed. Alas, in fact I was saved from failure after failure, in many instances!

And, one very nasty event in my life actually has saved me ruin and even more grief, by happening when it did. Lucky? I don’t think so any more. I truly believe my life has been being directed by the Lord all along; Proverbs 16:9 certainly clarified that for me.

Now that I’ve been made aware of the word, I WILL pay closer attention to MY deeds, like is shown to me in James 1:23-25…

It seems though the music trend is heading back to the style of the 50’s and 60’s music that CKEY radio station played… given Michael Buble and Mariah Carey’s well accepted annihilations of great Rock ‘n Roll hits like; Crazy Thing Called Love, originally done by Queen (one of my FAVOURITE bands!) and I Want To Know What Love Is, originally done by Foreigner (one of my FAVOURITE songs!)… makes me just cringe when I hear them massacre those great songs.

It seems now that every other song being played on my favourite Soft Rock radio station CHFI, is one of Michael Buble’s songs. Don’t get me wrong, I can tolerate his style… sprinkled sparingly throughout my morning listening. Lately, I only turn my radio on to listen to the morning news, then off it goes as soon as a Buble song gets introduced.

I truly miss my morning and late afternoon doses of soft rock that was played on CHFI only a few short months ago! You know, songs like those sung by; Backstreet Boys, N’Sync, BoyZone, Savage Gardens, Sarah McLachlan, Shania Twain, Mark Anthony, Phil Collins, Don Henley, Mariah Carey’s older/original style, Bryan Adams… and the list goes on.

Now I feel though the old black & white movie music, crooning, is pushing Rock ‘n Roll out of the air waves.

Am I being absurd?

When I first discovered the Online Business Systems website, I thought the opportunity they portrayed to be very professionally distailed; therefore I was quick to give my credit card number for the $9.95 US Funds… charged for shipping me a decision pack. After all, their website clearly showed me that they were registered members of the Better Business Bureau. Their website assured me, their decision package, as they called it, would be jam-packed with detail enough for me to make my decision as to whether I wanted to join them to make money from home.

Heck, this opportunity was presented to me only a few months before being forced out of a job (early retirement), with no prospects for re-employment. So, when I came across this… what I thought to be a “great offer” …yeeeeeaaah! You can bet I was anxious to get started.

When their package finally arrived… albeit the old style decision package… I was furious for their purposeful non-disclosure of the company’s name. I immediately telephone the numbers that were handwritten in the back of the decision package.

On my second attempt to contact someone, finally a lady picked up the receiver.  I told the lady point-blankly that I was upset with their not stating WHO the company is. My immediate thought was that this had to be Amway… but alas, it was… Herbalife? Go figure!

I was shocked at what I perceived to be a reputable company, masking their business in such secrecy. Hello? This SHOULD have raised a big, red flag for me… but, nooooo… I took bait! Truly, I thought it would be awesome… to be able to help those with weight problems, to gain their self-confidence back again. It would feel so good to be able help others, making this a win-win situation, for a change… OR… so I thought.

After all, Herbalife products have a good reputation, don’t they? And, I learned that REAL live doctors actually head up the research on all of their products. Impressive, huh?

Most of us out here looking for a real honest to goodness means of earning a living, really have to remember; starting your own business IS a costly venture, no matter how THEY want to “slice it” for us.

When you don’t have any extra cash to lend to an idea… and, in fairness… $3,000 to start your very own business is NOT that expensive… BUT, without a great, safe product (regarding Herbalife’s meal replacement and protein powders), no matter how terrific a business plan may be… you really have nothing. That’s what makes ANY sum of money invested… wasted money.

Here is what it cost me for the better part of 3 months (click on the image for a closer look):

So, a Merchant Account will cost you $75 to accept Visa and $35 to accept MaterCard… MONTHLY, whether you use it or not. Oh! And, if you sign a contract covering a term like, say, 3 years (that was THE only option available when I signed up!)… and you decide to quit for ANY reason BEFORE the 3 years has passed… well… you pay a penalty cost, determined by “the Merchant Account” at the time the account is terminated. Believe me, it WAS a hefty charge for me! So you can add another $400 to the total shown in the screen print above, because that’s what it cost me AFTER this screen print was taken and published here.

This is real money I could have used to live on after my job ended in September 2009. 

Having then been diagnosed with osteoporosis (detailed in an earlier post titled “Soy Consumption May Hasten Osteoporosis…“), and learning what I did regarding soy protein… well, by November 11, 2009, I terminated my Merchant Account, and requested a bill be sent to me for any remaining funds owing. This was followed by my emailed resignation to The Online Business System (OBS).

Having been left with several unsold Herbalife products that I couldn’t use, and a box of OBS paraphernalia I no longer needed, I decided to place an advertisement on Craigslist. Here’s the ad I used:

4 decision packages (1 BRAND NEW style), 6 new binders for distributors… AND 7 seminar tickets… plus paraphernalia.

Someone flagged my ad within a few hours of posting it, and even though I reworded the title for each posting… I tried 3 different times… each time my ad got flagged. Craigslist automatically deletes flagged ads to protect against anyone running an illegal advertisement. What was so illegal with my ad? Hmmm, could it be that OBS monitors what is being said about them online? Well… that’s my bet!

There were a few interested distributors who emailed me, having seen my ad BEFORE it was flagged. To each and everyone who requested details, I sent an emailed response of:

All this for ONLY $500… plus shipping.

If you live close by… you can save yourself the cost of shipping by picking the package up. Now, hows that for one sweet deal?

Disappointingly, as soon as the distributors discovered they could have the $1,000 worth of OBS paraphernalia for free IF they purchased the remaining unsold Herbalife products from me for only $500… well… they all slipped away into silence.

Truly, I do not understand their reasoning. Inspection of the products would have been “a given.” The products remained sealed and all expiry dates were way off at the time I offered these products for the super, discounted price. My asking price was WELL below what any of the distributors would have to pay for these products from Herbalife …and, not one of them made me a counter-offer.

Needless to say… the OBS paraphernalia went in the recycle box (though the dvds went in garbage), and the unsold Herbalife products were disposed of in an environmental-friendly fashion.

In 1900. when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to Canada, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line ups, in Halifax to be documented.

Some immigrants would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times.

They made learning English a primary rule in their new Canadian households… some even changed their names (Anglo-sized) to blend in, in their new country. They said good-bye to their birth places in order to give their children a new life, and they did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture.

Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no unemployment insurance, not even labour laws to protect them. All they had were the skills, craftsmanship, and desire they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.

Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. Canadians fought alongside men whose parents had come straight over from Germany, Italy, France, Japan, Czechoslovakia, Russia, Sweden, Poland, and so many other places.

None of these first generation Canadians ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Canadians fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan. They were defending the Freedom as one people.

When France was liberated, no-one in those villages looked for the Ukrainian-Canadian or the German-Canadian or the Irish-Canadian. The people of France saw only Canadians.

And the soldiers carried one flag that represented our country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country’s flag and waving it to represent who they use to be. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much just to be here.

These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be a Canadian. They stirred the melting pot into one red and white bowl.

Now, don’t you think it’s about time we stand up for our fore-fathers and their rights?

I was born and raised in this Country, and I’m proud of it! We are CANADIAN lest we forget… so, let’s put Christ back in our Christmas!
